Edvantis modernized outdated Remote Panel software for a global energy control manufacturer, delivering a user-friendly solution compatible with modern platforms and hardware

About the Client
Our client is a U.S.-based company that manufactures and services energy control and optimization solutions for the aerospace and industrial sectors. With over 40 manufacturing plants worldwide, they provide reliable, cutting-edge technologies. One of their key offerings includes control panels for monitoring and managing power systems.
Challenge
The client’s existing Remote Panel software, used as a Human-Machine Interface (HMI), was running on outdated Windows CE. They needed to upgrade the software to work on modern hardware and support platforms like Windows and Linux. The goal was to maintain the panel’s original functionality, ensure compatibility with modern tablets, and offer more flexible hardware options. They also wanted to minimize engineering efforts and deliver a smooth user experience.
Main tasks included:
- Upgrade the old Windows CE solution to modern frameworks.
- Ensure compatibility with Windows and Linux.
- Maintain the original functionality of the Remote Panel.
- Support a wider range of hardware options.
- Provide secure, customizable visualization for monitoring and control.
Team size and Composition
Edvantis assembled a dedicated team consisting of two skilled software developers and an experienced project manager, delivering customized solutions tailored to the client’s specific requirements.
Solution
Edvantis team worked closely with the client to redesign the Remote Panel software. The new version retained the original features while adding significant improvements for flexibility and usability.
We implemented the VNC (Virtual Network Computing) protocol, allowing users to view and control remote server screens. By separating business logic from UI components, the solution became easier to scale, test, and adapt. The updated control panel evolved into a versatile visualization tool for system monitoring, power management, and remote control.
Key Features:
- IPlatform Compatibility: The updated Remote Panel runs smoothly on Windows and Linux servers.
- Improved Visualization: Customizable touch panels offer scalable mini-SCADA visualization.
- VNC Integration: Provides detailed views of individual controllers for commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- User-Friendly Setup: Automated VNC server search and connection for easy use.
- Customization Options: Designed to support further customization with atvise® SCADA software and tunable settings.
- Robust Hardware Support: Offers a wider range of hardware options, including anti-glare and high-luminance displays for indoor and outdoor use.
Results
Edvantis helped the client modernize their Remote Panel solution, turning it into a reliable and scalable tool for visualization, monitoring, and control. By using modern frameworks and advanced technology, the new solution improved flexibility, reduced engineering time, and enhanced the user experience. The new system not only retained the original functionality but also created new opportunities for system integrators, switchgear builders, and genset packagers to improve their workflows.
The upgraded control panel is now used in various areas, such as hospitals, data centers, offshore rigs, rental power solutions, and wastewater gas-to-power systems. Its features make it a practical, off-the-shelf HMI solution with strong visualization tools for operators and system integrators.
