Software Development and Quality Assurance for an IT Infrastructure Monitoring Vendor

The Challenge

Our client, a leading American technology company, develops software to assist more than 300,000 customers, including 96% of the Fortune 500, in managing their networks, systems, and IT infrastructure. The company faced a challenge when a team member was unable to deliver the initial release of the operations console after two years of work. 

Subsequently, the company looked for a new technology partner and, based on positive feedback and our team’s expertise, chose Edvantis. Collaborating closely with the client’s internal teams, Edvantis not only successfully completed the project but also extended the partnership to other ventures, such as creating a new module.

Currently, there are 8 people engaged in the client’s projects, namely:

• 3 senior and 1 middle software developers are building the new module (Agents)
• 1 team lead, 1 middle, and 2 senior software developers are the core team working on the operations console

Operations Console Project

Operations console is a consolidated command center monitoring IT infrastructure health, collecting performance data from up to 100 servers, and presenting it in a single place. Also, it allows users to perform cross-instance analysis to get a better overall picture of their IT systems.

Edvantis addressed initial functionality issues, improving stability and enhancing data visualization. Our team was instrumental in enabling real-time synchronization between the console and servers. 

Throughout the project, the Edvantis team was involved in various activities, ranging from feature development to design, analysis, and post-support. Each release brought some functional, technological, or security improvements. 

Key Achievements with Operations Console

• Real-time data retrieval from customers’ remote instances
• 40 out-of-the-box templates for global reports
• Integration of various instruments for visualization of data across multiple instances
• Integrated search and built-in asset explorer
• Basic and advanced UI filtering capabilities

Edvantis integrated console with various modules to ensure compatibility with new versions and seamless API maintenance. Each module enhances network, server, and application performance monitoring, providing comprehensive insights and real-time alerts.

Agents Project

Agents are specialized modules that are installed on customers’ servers, virtual machines, or specialized devices to gather information on system health and processor indicators. Edvantis resolved an issue with Agents deactivating unexpectedly, ensuring customer satisfaction. 

As part of the Agents project, Edvantis specialists are currently working on:

• Simulation and automation of system breakdown scenarios    
• Regression testing of installation     
• Migration of the system code from .NET framework 4.8 to .NET standard 2.0
• Customer-requested improvements to the product (level 3 technical support)

Beyond software development and quality assurance, Edvantis provides level 3 technical support, actively participating in enhancements, new features, and bug fixes every six months. Our teams are frequently chosen as the preferred technical experts for the analysis, maintenance, and resolution of issues in various modules, even in cases where we do not have ownership of the underlying code.
